Exclamation Alcohol smell from weapons instructor

This may be an offensive question to some. It has been over a year since I did any kind of aikido weapons practice and I have been kind of going back a bit lately. I had this one guy teach me for years. Because of covid restrictions, we have been doing jo stuff outside. Last class, the same instructor reeked of alcohol. I can smell it when he spoke outdoors. I do not like to deal with alcoholics. Would anyone here feel ok with taking classes from a weapons instructor that smells of alcohol?

Re: Alcohol smell from weapons instructor

Every time you practice martial arts (with or without weapons) you put yourself in harms way and depend on your partner to keep you safe.

A partner who is under the influence of alcohol or any other substance is dangerous.

Re: Alcohol smell from weapons instructor

Smells of alcohol, or used alcohol before practice?

Just because of the time, be sure it's not that is he uses some alco-jel that has a strong smel, or some other reason for smelling of alcohol without being under the influence of alcohol.
