Re: Happy Birthday to Janet Rosen

Hello Janet,

Many happy returns.

If you were in Japan, you would have celebrated kanreki 還暦 one year ago and would have been given something red, celebrating, I am told, one's return to a child-like state. The word for red is aka (赤) and akachan (赤ちゃん) is the accepted term for a baby.

I am a little further on than you and I receive letters from the local ward office addressed to kouki-koureisha (後期高齢者), which could be translated as something like, 'someone venerably old and in the last stage.'

Best wishes,

P A Goldsbury

As always, a delightful combination of education and entertainment from you, dear sir.

The idea of reiterating "red diaper baby" (though in fact I was not by birth, but by affiliation) is most amusing.

And I can only imagine your raised eyebrows the first time you received such honorifics by post. That will be shared with some of my clients when I return to work next week (I have a fair share on octagenarians and nonarians, and one quite venerable lady who turned 106 last month).

Cheers,
Janet

Re: Happy Birthday to Janet Rosen

Hi Janet

Happy birthday wishes to you :-)

A friend phoned me yesterday and asked if I would be celebrating my 80th birthday in May - I replied that I would, he said his father celebrated his 80th as he thought it was an important marker of time, I asked if his father had enjoyed the celebration ? - he replied " yes he had a great 80th, sadly he died the next day ! " - I didn't want to hear that.

Many thanks, Henry.
One thing I've learned over the many years working with an older group of patients is how to judiciously NOT share a thought; your friend could have a lesson in that. Sending good thoughts your way!

Re: Happy Birthday to Janet Rosen

Not dating anything here (nor implying impending demise as per Ellis' post) but how many from the Aikido-L are still around/posting. Birthday notice got me thinking.

Not so many. The -L is even quieter and most of us are keeping in touch via FB these days.....

Not posting (mostly), but still around.

I already said it on FB, but many happy returns (belatedly), Janet.

thank you. It was bittersweet for a variety of reasons.
However I think I may have made aikiweb history with a named birthday thread, which would be awesome!

Re: Happy Birthday to Janet Rosen

And if every year on your birthday we post " Happy Birthday " to you it will be in perpetuity.
