You Tube: Bruno Orozco

He has a really nice combination of aikido and jujutsu. I'd love to train with him a bit. I promise not to be as noisy as the ukes in this video. Check about 2:21, is that a lady giggling or is uke actually screaming like a girl?

Not no-touch. Much touch.Tapping abounds. Straight up what it says it is, aikido done with self defense in mind. I have personally used both techniques shown from :30-:45 against resistant, belligerent people who wanted to hit me. They work. His entry against a punch is a lot more functional then mine, though. I generally just perform the infamous hana-uke, gedan morote jodan kao uke, or hitai-itaiyo.

I'm not going to be the one to ask "where's the aiki" but I am curious as to whether you think this is actually Aikido or not. If so, why?

It is as stated, Aikido with self defense in mind. Aiki? It has to be felt.

Hello Cliff,
The gent describes the demo/tutorial a Hard Aikido.I would suggest that the Aikido should be renamed Rough Aikido-very rough.Uke was simply being used as cannon fodder. The video for me was more like bastardised Jiu Jitsu than Aikido,Again not my cup of Earls Grey[Tea].Cheers, Joe.

Re: You Tube: Bruno Orozco

I am surprised to hear uke grunting in pain so much. Fair enough for joint locks, but that uke was in pain after hitting the mat on what ought to be some fairly easy landings.

I can't comment on the efficacy or otherwise of his chokes, sutemi-waza and jujutsu locks etc., because I have no experience in that area, but I can comment on his application of ni-kyo and san-kyo. If he had tried to apply those locks to me, I'm pretty sure I would have been able to reverse them pretty easily. Given that he was lacking in the basics of applying them, I'm really not sure why his uke was so flamboyantly dramatic when receiving them. Anyway, that video struck me as using the chokes and jujutsu etc. in order to compensate for poor aikido technique.

It's not so difficcult to do techniques like that to a passive uke, but he seems to like it.

Whith self defense in mind, he should train with an uke who really attacks. This is nothing.

Hi All,
Mr Orozco should set up a private group which specialises in a bit of Sand M.The uke I thought was getting turned over, but he seemed to like it.Bruno certainly had a slight smile on his face as and when he demolished the big guy.If this is what he teaches I think his classes might well be filled with some unusual students.A nice bit of pain can be very enjoyable , so I am told.Cheers, Joe

Re: You Tube: Bruno Orozco

I feel obligated since I posted on the other thread...

I think I see some nice jujutsu application drawing on similar aikido waza. I think straight to Cliff's comment, I see less "aiki" and more just good 'ol "blending" - not that there is anything wrong with that. I would not like to think of this stuff with aiki in it... that would be devastating since there is less ability for uke to escape the pressure. From the look of the ukes, I would agree that this aikido is probably influenced by some practical need...

The video does frame itself as a demonstration of outside-the-dojo application to put what I am looking at in context.

Meh. Not what I'd look for in Aikido. Uke's response to technique was rather overblown.

it looks like slightly-gentled Sanuces Ryu to me.
