Re: You might be an Aikido addict if ....

... after not going to the Jun Fan/Jeet Kune Do class two miles from your house because you have a cold, you drive 20 miles to sit in on Aikido, so you would get some martial arts that night.

Re: You might be an Aikido addict if ....

.... in spite of the winter storm warning and the phrase "no uneccessary travel," you still have to get out and see how crappy the roads are before turing around and deciding it's really not safe to drive 20 miles to Aikido. (Or is that a sign my addiction is weakening?)

... your dojo is closed for the week over the holidays, but Sensei lets you take a key, and 7 of you turn up for 3 hours in the evening to train together. (Another session planned for tonight, too. :-) )

No, Michael, it's not weakening, it's just Upstate New York weather. If you stayed home, you will live to train another day.

Linda in California..... you all are an inspiration, and have some more fun tonight!

Thank you for understanding ... both my "problem" and the weather!

Re: You might be an Aikido addict if ....

From an uchideshi aspect:

- you constantly straighten pictures/paintings that are askew

- you bow to the curb before stepping onto it

- when you see a hakama on the floor (that doesn't belong to your sensei), you feel the urge to run over and fold it

- you attend music festivals and use tai sabaki to move throughout the crowd

- you've woken up to see that you have your partner/lover in a nikkyo pin

- you sit in sieza when you hear a bell

- you constantly probe other people's balance when shaking their hand

You know you are addicted when you buy a Granola bar from the vending machine and are disappointed it dropped right down without getting hung up. Because you did not get a chance to demonstrate your skills of placing your hand on the machine frame and making the thing drop with no noise. My friend wanted to how I did that, I invited him to class.

You walk in the opposite direction of a crowd so you can practice "no touch" rondori

You find yourself rather unexpectedly dancing with a shihan and you calm your nerves by telling yourself it is just a different kind of ukemi. Later that night you consider how you could turn it into a, "It had to be felt" thread....

I was thinking I was addicted :O

... you see a fighting movie and think "so unefficient, just use sankyo/ koteghaeshi/ikio/yonkyo/...
... you have searched for other aikidoka in school and talk about what you did in training

And the winner is.....

The only thing I can think of as more deserving of addictive status would be to marry someone based on his or her location to a dojo or sensei!!!!!!

I almost did the same thing funnily enough, even got into talks with the dojo asking how much sessions were, how far from the campus it was and what the training atmosphere was like

you know you're addicted to Aikido when you unconsciously use Taisabaki in public places to minimise risk of collision or getting hit, or is that a sign of constant training lol

or worse, you're watching a martial arts movie, or playing a game with martial arts and you can name the moves
