Aikido in Iwakuni

Hey,
(This was asked a while back, but I'm checking to see if anyone has more recent information.)
I have a young Marine who's shipping out to the base at Iwakuni and he's wondering if anyone knows about Aikido classes in the area. He may not have a lot of time for travel to Hiroshima, so he's looking for something local.

Re: Aikido in Iwakuni

According to the aikikai home page, there is "Yamaguchi Aikikai Iwakuni Bushinkai Dojo" in Iwakuni city. You can contact them at stamura45@yahoo.co.jp. Not sure if it is close to the navy base or not.

Re: Aikido in Iwakuni

The school I've been to in Iwakuni may be the one robin referenced as it was an aikikai affiliate. It has been some years, but if I recall correctly if he heads west in the big intersection in front of the train station he'll pass a Nissan dealership on the right and then right before the intersection with Route 2 there is a couple of roads on the left and the school was on the second floor of a building down one of them. The building has a sign that says Aikido in kanji.

From the north gate by bike it is probably about a twenty minute ride. If he knows how long it takes to get to the train station it's only a few minutes from there.

Tell your friend to find someone who knows how to get to the "Chicken Shack". He'll love it.
