Where to buy an Aiki-Spear?

I remember one of my teachers coming back from a trip to Japan once with a great wooden training spear. He got it from Tskuba mountain, it was about the size of a jo, but with a large, square, pointed spear head on it. It was all carved out of a single piece of wood, and was beautiful.

I'd like to get one, anyone know of a supplier selling such a training spear?

I have seen a short wooden spear thats supposed to be a replika of Ueshibas spear from the Iwama dojo that also were made in Tsukuba.

Itīs probably easier to get a good picture and measurements from your teacher and have it custom made than find a supplier. I havent seen anything like it any major supplier, that suggests that its not a common training weapon.

Like this? Maybe ask Kingfisher Woodworks about making you one.

SDK supplies might be able to help you:

I've seen custom long weapons made by this person; I'm no expert or anything but they seemed pretty nice and reasonably priced:

I'll second Gerardo on SDK http://sdksupplies.netfirms.com/
Kim is a pleasure to work w/ and he will take time to customize - I got exactly the custom bokken shape/length I wanted from nice hickory that has held up beautfully for about a dozen years now.

Hi Chris,

I visited the guy on Tsukuba Mountain who probably made the spear you are referring to. I cannot remember his name right now but I understand he has since passed away. I photographed him making a TSKSR Naginata while in his shop. He was amazing!

All of his weapons were beautiful. I was very sad to hear of his passing, he has been sick for some time, and from what I know there is no one making weapons on Tsukuba mountain anymore.

Thanks for the links guys, I'll do some more poking around.
