Creative commons illustrations (free as in beer)

Our local club has a "Welcome Pack" for new members (which we give to beginners after they've done their first class, to help them make sense of what they've just experienced). I've put the artwork from the welcome pack on the web under a creative commons attrib share-alike license, so that anyone else who might find such a thing useful can use them too (even for commercial projects). If you're familiar with Fudebakudo, you'll recognise the style.

The images are here: http://www.fudebakudo.com/aikido/

I'll be adding more from time to time.
Justification for doing this on the blog.

Yours
Dave

Lovely!

Draw strength from stillness. Learn to act without acting. And never underestimate a samurai cat.

Hi Dave,

Very nice and very generous of you!

I have to admit, though, that I was expecting a ninja or sumotori suddenly appearing in your clip-art. Maybe it's just me.

Thanks a lot for sharing Dave, I always liked your artwork very much, most of all the 31-count Kata, the nine ways to throw an opponent and the funny movies.

Re: Creative commons illustrations (free as in beer)

Thanks

Jun: ah, but if you peel the PNG images off the screen you'll find there's a ninja stuck on the back of every one of them.

Carina: thanks However I can't take credit for the animations. Those were done by my super-talented friend and brother-in-pens René Carbonell (and his brother Raul, who worked on the samurai movie for the book, which was particularly intricate). René doesn't do aikido, so I sketched out the specification for him... and he kept my nerdy markup in, which is how the x, y and z came to appear in the aikido movie :-) If you look carefully, she's doing shiho nage, sankyo, and kote gaeshi (in that order). I think.

Yours
Dave

yes she is so small moving that big guy, the real essence of Aikido, the force doesn't matter. Very thougtfull all animations. Please say thanks to René and Raul too.
