Would be a worthwhile purchase for an Aikido novice?

Yes, I have it installed on my laptop. It's very, very useful particularly for a beginner, since you can watch the techniques on repeat, in slow motion, and from different angles.

I highly recommend it, if you're new to aikido.

I only saw the programme briefly some time back and FWIW there is probably no dojo in Brisbane that is going to do the waza the same way(though Brisbane Aikikai might be close give the Sugano-Yamada relationship). This is not necessarily a problem, but if you are relatively new to the art the busywork of differing feet and hands might confuse a little. On the other hand you'll get to see and try (assuming a willing accomplice) techniques you might not see in the dojo all that often.

From my research this program seems to be well regarded as at least a general information source, so I feel confident that adaptations/interpolations can be made where displayed techniques differ from my own style. More to the point, there doesn't seem to be much competition for this type of product.

I'm also considering purchasing "Ukemi - The Art of Falling" by Bruce Bookman, of which there are basic and advanced versions, and "Ki in Aikido: A Sampler of Ki Exercises" by C.M. Shifflett. All of those have had some very good reviews.

BTW, not actually in Brisbane - nearby. For personal reasons I'd prefer not to advertise my association just yet, as it remains to be seen whether or not the current style is a good fit for me, both practically and philosophically. I'm committed to continuing in one form or another, but it's very early days for me.
