Firstly, masakatsu agatsu.
The most rewarding (and also, most frightening) thing that aikido has given me is the realization of death. Not only that we will all die, but that too many of us don't really live...

Not sure how Aikido has given you a sense of Death Nick, but perhaps that is another thread!!
For me it has given me a sense of completeness. The philosophy of Aikido fits very well with my own being and the harmony within the art helps to promote a sense of peace. Even when I am gasping for breath during a particularly hard class I feel at peace and surprisingly happy! (any other exercise I have done before did not give me a happy feeling to be honest!!)
Also, it has provided a sense of belonging. To a world wide family.

Aikido allows communication of what is. That "thing" beyond explanation but very much within the realm of our perception. The moment of connection nullifies any sense of separation from ourselves, each other, our environment.
Extremely difficult to say anything further without it being misconstrued.

The budo do not deal with facing death as much as the bugei and bujutsu, in which a mistake meant death. I suppose through my interest in Aikido, rather than Aikido itself, has given me a reason to celebrate life but not forget death.
Also, I feel that I've learned some great things about myself since joining- and this worldwide family is one I'm happy to be a part of  .
