Maybe you should ask those guys in the NFL with the super long hair hanging out of their helmets. I am amazed people like Troy Polamalu don't get their hair ripped out all the time.
Actually I'm pretty sure I've heard that Troy has had his hair grabbed a time or two. Saw it in an interview once I believe but I'm not a huge football fan so I didn't really pay much attention to the details.

Re: A question for tha aiki ladies :O) - how do you wear your hair?

Hi there!

I have hair down to my bum and thankfully it never usually causes any problem when training. I have on rare occasions had it used to my training partners advantage when a technique is not quite going according to plan.

I tie my hair in one low ponytail and then split it in to 2 plaits, which seams to do the trick.

The low ponytail does'nt get in the way when rolling or taking Ukemi, and spliting in to two plaits tends to stop people grabing them...)

Long hair for me is not a disadvantage with Aikido!

Take care

Tie it up, cut it up, or leave it alone.

I keep mine short anyway.

Trusting the process.

Re: A question for tha aiki ladies :O) - how do you wear your hair?

I find this interesting. The ladies in our group don't seem to have many problems. Most of them, my daughter included, either wear a pony tail or braid it. With the exception of one whose bangs are too short to stay pulled up, that seems to work fine.

Not, however, for one of our instructors, a guy whose hair is just passed the shoulders. He pulls it into the standard ponytail, as guys with long hair do. It's been pulled, snagged, stepped on, caught fingers, and all manner of mistreatment. I imagine he has the aspirin shipped in by the crate.

I just put mine in a ponytail with one of those seamless bands so it doesn't catch.

During class I adjust it as and when it comes loose - takes a matter of seconds Some of the guys spend longer adjusting their gi jackets

Personally I find my hakama much more of a problem than my long hair - when that comes loose I can't do a major re-adjust in seconds
