My answer would be related to the O-Sensei quote I have heard of (paraphrase): You should do each technique as though doing it for the first and last time.
In other words, if you have never heard of the technique, and you are attacked, what would it be like to be inventing that technique on the spot? In other words, it is not a technique, not something to be in a syllabus and recorded and remembered, rather it is just what you are spontaneously doing to merge successfully with that attack.
