Re: Any Insights into "Aikido Bujutsu"?
Aikido bujutsu and aikibujutsu are likely to be substantially different. Aikido bujutsu sounds like the name of the dojo, rather than a style. So the videos are unlikely to be related. Why not go watch if it's close enough?

Mark

hey mark,
i think you may be right, aikido bujutsu could be the name of the dojo despite the fact they are at the ymca now.
i have been to see them a few times and there techniques look identical to the first video i posted (not sure why the second is there, oops). i'm thinking the style might be just bujutsu or aikibujutsu or some such thing. i was just interested in getting some history but that oddly seems unlikely... thanks for the input....

Re: Any Insights into "Aikido Bujutsu"?
"Aikido bujutsu" isn't a recognized branch of aikido, so as was said, it's probably just the dojo's name. Given the description---that it's a "relative" of aikido, rather than aikido itself---it's probably an independent school. So I can't really say anything without more info...
... buuuuut, the combo of "aikido" and "bujutsu" rubs me funny... Maybe I'm just being overly-sensitive, but it's fairly common for illegitimate schools to replace the "-do" ending and/or add some sort of "-jutsu" ending; based on the false understanding that "-jutsu" styles promote "combat effectiveness" and "-do" styles promote "spiritual development" (historically, there's no difference between "-do" and "-jutsu" styles).
And where did you get the description that it's a "relative of traditional aikido"? Is that something the teacher (or another official dojo representative) told you? Again that rubs me funny... See, there's no such thing as "traditional aikido"---the parent of aikido is a style called Daito-ryu. And the origins of Daito-ryu are murky, so at this point, no style can claim to be a "relative" of Daito-ryu. But even if "traditional aikido" just means aikido as taught by the founder, Ueshiba, that's also funny. Being a "relative" of Ueshiba's aikido would seem to imply it's a sibling art, a descendant of Daito-ryu. And the only other known descendant of Daito-ryu is a small style called Yanagi-ryu or Yoshida-ryu (the name was recently updated).
But again, I may just be over-thinking this. I really, honest, can't make any sort of judgement without more info.

Re: Any Insights into "Aikido Bujutsu"?
relative of aikido is just some term i came up with to ease the process of describing what i see. other than that, i have little or no opinion on what they call it. i was just interested in some history...

Re: Any Insights into "Aikido Bujutsu"?
yeah it does seem a bit contradictory... 'do' versus 'jutsu'... self improvement versus self preservation...
at any rate, i believe bujutsu refers to warrior arts, and aikido is...what it is... not a warrior art...
haven't seen the videos. dang firewalls

Re: Any Insights into "Aikido Bujutsu"?
finally a good answer.
after seeing more bujutsu videos i agree, "do" simply does not fit...
might be fun, but not in the aikikai sorta way...

In the first part of that video - up to :56 - they're practicing (at least to some degree) Nishio Aikido (which does have a following in Poland.)
