When I was doing my ki excercises this morning I was not thinking about moving my body I was moving it.....

Within reason yes, understanding why and how things works, such as joint locks, pressure points, and the like helps me understand them better.

Perhaps not just anatomy but a little physiology helps as well. And psychology. Oh and pathology. Oh and some epidemiology (when the flu season hits...); orthopedics, physiatry...

Yeah. Knowing how the joints work (and don't work), knowing how to fire specific muscles to increase efficiency. You can learn this stuff instinctively too, but being the sort of geek that I am, I appreciate being able to put names and labels on things.
