Re: Demo

Well choreographed. But I wonder how much more arm/shoulder power he'd need for less cooperative uke.....

Re: Demo

It's hard to be impressed with aikido.

Re: Demo

Couldn't get through to the second one. It's hard to say about the skills. Looks good, but the degree of uke cooperation and choreography is unknown. Aesthetically, I don't like the lighting or the music at all, and there's something about the main nage's manner that appears cocky or swaggering or something - this impression could be accentuated by the flashy lighting/music. Overall, I wouldn't show it to someone as a representative example of Aikido.

Hi Kevin,

I'm not sure I'd show any video to non-Aikidokas as representative of Aikido. It's difficult for them not to come across as over-choreographed

Re: Demo

1st clip
I would agree that there is too much arm power.
2nd clip
Trying to hard- he would be a ( ! ) in my book. Why is he wearing gloves for the last part and not making contact with uke?

Re: Demo

The demo looks very much like Takemusu Aikido (Iwama style) type. Generally good. I would prefer to show this demo to non aikido practitioners than the No Touch Throw video I posted a while ago. See this thread

Uke's attack may be arranged (it is a demo, afterall), but I think the tori's response is not.

Boon.

Re: Demo

That doesn´t look like Iwama style to me. To much running around, little jumps, spinning with jo, flashy "kokyunage" etc....

Re: Demo

I think there's one universal truism... Never post vidoes on the net no matter how good you think you are or how many dan grades you've been given.

Re: Demo

The first video is nice, but the lighting and music? It's jsut trying abit too hard.

As someone else already said, hard to impress anyone with a mere demonstration if they don't "know" Aikido.
