Re: Healing Cancer through Aikido?
I am so sorry to hear of your diagnosis. Like many others, I too am a cancer survivor. I started aikido shortly after being treated for cancer for one year, back in 2001-2. I had advanced stage three colon cancer, and having endured two surgeries, six months of chemo, and 28 days of radiation, I wanted to embrace a healthier lifestyle and aikido became an important part of that. No, I don't think that aikido can cure your cancer but anything that helps you feel better mentally, strengthen your body physically, or deal with stress in a healthier way is good for and your immune system, which in turn helps you to fight the cancer. I would say keep training as long as you can or, if you need to quit for a time, get back to it as soon as you are able.
Also, be careful to discuss any alternative therapies that you might be inspired to try with your oncologist. Some therapies can counteract the "mainstream" therapy that you getting - for example, taking high doses of vitamin C may reduce the effects of radiation treatments.
