Chris nailed the six pillars,I'm not sure about nine principles, although when I first started the art some twelve years ago, we focused on "the nine basics":

ikkyo

nikkyo

sankyo

yonkyo

kotegaeshi

shihonage

iriminage

tenchinage

kaitennage
