which leads to a whole other line of thought. Mantra, "seed syllables," in Indian religion are described much the same as is kotodama. Is this not another example of Japanese "nativizing" a continental teaching, placing it in a context of Shinto or "new religion?" (shingon becomes chinkon, for example).
And Steve - actually, it would be a lovely place - here - to tell the story of the meeting of Ueshiba and Odano - the encounter might serve to illuminate Ueshiba in yet another, slightly different light.
