I also started Aikido later in life and have reached Nidan a few years back. I assist with the kids class and teach some adult classes and as you I felt as if it took many months if not years to actually feel like a yudansha, some days I still feel like I am a kyu rank. Being a yudansha opens up a whole new set of learning, learning how to teach especially to kids is a big challenge and I watch how my sensei explains techniques and ukemi to a new student so that I can also be able to do it as well someday.
