Frank Doran Shihan's Weekend Celebration

Posted 2009-11-29 15:51:29 by Francis Takahashi

November 20th to the 23rd marked a cpecial event in the life of a most distinguished Aikido pioneer, and for Aikido in the United States.

This was the occasion of Frank Doran Shihan's 5o years in Aikido, 55 years in martial arts training, and his 77th (call it his 39th) birthday. Close to 300 friends and supporters were on the mat, with others in observation, as Doran Shihan and his most senior students conducted classes in both class and in Aikido.

There was an excellent reception on Saturday night at the Sofitel Hotel, a true luxury venue that many stayed, at the most reasonable rates anywhere! Thanks, Bruce and Adrienne!

Amongst his honors were a proclamation from a California elected official, and a flag that flew over Washington D.C.. For an ex marine, this was most poignant and heartfelt.

Congratulations again, Doran Shihan, for your leadership, your example and your mentoring of so many on the Aiki Path. Thank you for being a man of honor, similar to one of your favorite mentors, the late Doshu, Kisshomaru Ueshiba.

Remember, I have already paid in full for the next 5oth celebration seminar and party.
