Clove, all good responses to your post with probably Ellis giving you the best with his statement of "how Akido has lost its way" it appears the problem is that nage is expecting more from you then you are ready for - it is not your problem but more of nage's shortcomings. Nage is expecting you to just flow with the technique regardless of of how poorly they may be performing - therefore, they blame you and try to compensate that by being more forceful - reality is that if they were doing the technique correctly, your response could not be resistive since you would have no choice but to move appropriately - if it is done right, you both get that 'aha' moment - sounds like neither of you are - again not your fault; more nage's as well as your sensei's for not being attentive to what is going on. Good luck with your training - best to talk to your sensei about the issue.
