Thank you very much for this, Ellis. You've written bits and pieces about Kuroiwa sensei before, but never in the integrated way that you've done here. And it's a great help to know for instance, that Masuda concussing you (which you have mentioned before) happened in the context of a previous "affront" that involved Kuroiwa. I find the interpersonal dynamics of these sensei fascinating, and it's a revelation that even Masuda would treat a (technical) junior and iconoclast like Kuroiwa with such respect.
