Well, this may be your experience but it hasn't generally been mine. There
are beginners who are very tentative as uke, but there are others I have encountered - particularly males - who, having no formal martial arts experience but recognizing that they are practicing a martial art, do exactly as you say they tend not to do. Maybe the beginners I attract are just from a rougher, tougher demographic...
