Did gonzales give any reasons for quiting?

Was it just because of the sacking of the 9 US attorneys?
Also what were those attorneys investigating at the time of their dismissal's?.

I've read and heard of numerous investigations by these attorneys, that include the iraq dossier, the betrayal and disclosure of a cia operative's name, that alone is tantamount to treason, and also the alleged peodophile investigations that go right to the heart of the whitehouse.
