Re: Aikido - The Theory of Limits (Part1)

This is a splendid blog.

The act of striking or grabbing properly is a keiko in itself equal to or even more important than the study of waza. These striking/grabbing abilities develop in parallel with the maturing of technique over time. They are also a vital tool for developing kokyu ryoku. It doesn't matter whether I am grabbed or being grabbed, both are done with the power of kokyu.

It is therefore of vital importance that beginners are well-schooled in these correct habits. There is no better way than the instructor himself/herself regularly taking ukemi in every class for as long as they are physically able to do so. In the case of my sensei, his main medium for 'teaching' and giving feedback to the individual is via him in the role of uke. It works.

I've read a couple of good essays on this topic and I think this blog is right up there with the best of them. Thank you sensei.
