I think thats pretty good actually Eric.
Most common usage I can think of in Tai Jutsu is in shiho nage...stepping off the back foot and using a slicing action before lifting your arms and turning back to cut uke down to what we refer to as rear triangle or rear third point.
This movement is the same as some of the cuts in the 8 diectional sequence described by Eric above.
I agree it depends on the school which direction you go in...but usually you go the opposite way when practicing with a jo I believe.
