Chris, I think Ron was being sarcastic....just because we don't think of Aikido as being a fight does not mean that we don't consider it a martial art.
Mike made a rather big leap there.
For me Aikido is not a sport....it is not about who wins a contest. It is about becoming stronger and safer, not just physically but emotionally as well.
