Somebody here (can't remember who) once described their dojo sub-floor. Frame of 2x4's, edge up, with sturdy hose attached along the top of the frame. Plywood on top of the hose, then Swain type mats. I guess the hose gave a little bit of spring under the mats but you didn't have all those tires. This is completely from memory so take it for what it's worth
