In our dojo, the rule is one examination/year
(in may/june).
No test for 6th kyu.
Between 1st to Shodan, one year mininum and assistance to seminars.
Ours senseis tell us if they allow to exam for shodan.
In fact, they are doing continuous evaluation on every student.
