Ted, you missed my point. Of course one must follow the rules of the game
during the game. In the same way an aikidoist must follow the conventions of training
during training. It's equally silly to presume an aikidoist will follow the conventions of training (bowing, changing roles, etc...) in a self-defense situation.... just as it's silly to presume a combat sports person to do likewise.
