Thank you for this reminder / kick in the behind. ;-) As I'm preparing for my upcoming ("later this year") shodan exam I need to be clear (with myself and others) about what I need. I tend to go with the flow, and help others, but I'm going to have to start making specific requests for help if I want to get to where I want to be. And it serves no one if I don't do that. Thanks.
During my own recent test prep, my trainers/ukes helped with this, doing things like warning off junior students who wanted to practice with me. Having a dojo culture that supports training selfishness definitely helps.
