Is the villain of the piece the good guy or is the hero the guy who finally wears the black hat?
Well, the essence of drama is more like aikido. The protagonist, the one the play is all about, is the one who needs to learn something and does so at the end. In aikido, we call him or her tori. Uke is the antagonist, the one forcing the protagonist to learn.
In aikido they even take turns, so everybody learns something. Fine for aikido, but I'm not sure it would make compelling drama.
