Thanks for the insight on horse-training, Linda. My first time riding a horse just last year, I was instructed by our trail guide to kick the horse in the flanks to get him to go. When I tentatively tried it, my horse didn't move, so the guide said to do it harder. "I feel bad," I responded, "I don't want to make it seem like animal abuse." Amused, the guide told me, "Honey, at the rate you're doing it, he doesn't feel a thing." How interesting to know that they want/need clearer direction from us. Can't wait to ride again in a couple weeks.
