Additionally, the early dojo that O'Sensei set up was called the "Hell Dojo"! Most of O'Sensei's formative years were spent scrapping; read Angry White Pyjamas and other accounts. He was pretty merciless when it came down to it. He mellowed somewhat after the war - as did his Aikido.
