In the end, it doesnt matter...what matters is what it means to you at the time I suppose.
I would vote Hakama for Dan grade only, but I also like colored belts.
Being that I like milestones and knowing what is to be achieved at each level, this gives me some kind of a guide line to know what to expect from each person I train with.
(Just me though, I realize some people are the complete opposite in regards to this line of thought, which is totally cool.)
