Ellis' bar scene reminds me more of Raymond Chandler. Apparently Chandler, though, regarded Hemingway as a genius, and even wrote a 1932 parody of Hemingway entitled "Beer in the Sergeant-Major's Hat, or, The Sun Also Sneezes." FWIW, there is, or at least used to be, an "International Bad Imitation Raymond Chandler Competition."
I personally would like to see Ellis imitate Steven Seagal.
