Actually I found a pretty direct transferrence to effectiveness when I choked out some ex-marine (about 190-95 lb) who has about 2.5 years of ground experience. By all rights I should have been choked out. But somehow it was really easy to get his back on the ground and snap that RNC on him.
What's funny is that (and I commented on this before), with all my standup training, I thought I would be uncomfortable on the ground. Surprise surprise, I wasn't, in fact I was immediatley comfortable on the ground. On top of which most of the ground moves made sense, if you applied internal physical
principals to them (tho I still find a lot of the BJJ moves overly complex...)
