Been there, taken both roads. I've made six Hakama, and came away with six major migraines, but workable pieces of attire. Denim was an interesting experiment in trying to come up with a street worthy version -l-.
I absolutlely love my BuJin Hakama. I was attracted to it initially because they were offering a hakama specifically for women. I've trained in a mens hakama ( mix up- its a long funny story) and I can't complain at at ( until the moment I notice my Hakama go flying by me
and thought 'gee that looks like my peace sign on the hem...'" I like the heavy duty cotton build, its got the ability to take a punch and keep on going.
