If ones goal is to attain "mastery" of ones art I not only do not think that this misses the whole point, but rather, it is the whole point.
This was my point, yes.
That to learn because you love it in the end translates to gaining mastery of the art. But, to train because you want to be a "master", well ... I doubt you'll ever attain mastery of Aikido.
