The Art of Peace???

Aikido has been described as The Art of Peace. However are there any real linguistic arguments for translating
:ai:
:ki:
:do:
into English as "The Art of Peace" or is this all interpetation?

I don't believe there are any linguistic arguments for this.

Its just a strap line.

Horse-racing is known as the 'sport of kings'. ...but it means racing with horses!

I _think_ the 'art of peace' label comes from some of John Stevens' works, and hinges on a comment by Ueshiba. However, as a translation, no, it don't work a'tall.
