......pants and jacket
Hey everybody,
I figure there must be someone floating around here that would know the answer to this question I've been trying to answer for ever now (ok, like 4 or 5 months). Is there seperate terms, in Japanese for thr dogi top and dogi bottom. Yep, thats about it. Thanks! Osu! ~Adam |

Terms I have heard here: Top = uwagi (jacket) Bottoms = zubon (trousers). In the local MA equipment store, top = ue, bottons = shita. |

Re: ......pants and jacket
~~In my first dojo, long ago, they used the terms:
Jacket--uwagi Pants--shitagi :ai: :ki: |

I won't say it wouldn't ever be used in that context, but I'd advise caution when using it, Adam. Like, wait for a native Japanese to use it in that manner first. If nothing else, it seems a bit out-of-date. |

Re: ......pants and jacket
~~Could very well be out of date and yes, we were told it meant 'underwear' :D . It's what was worn beneath the hakama. Thanks for the current clarification!~~
