Finding KENBU & ultra-light kenbu swords

Hello everyone

Owing to wrist problems, I need to find an ultra-light iaito, or practice sword. I have just encountered KENBU, or sword-dance, which uses specialist ultra-light swords.
Does anyone know where to find the swords used in kenbu, or where to find kenbu schools?

The new Paul Chen iaito are really light compared to regular iaito. I really don't know anything abouut Kenbu.

My husband studies both iaido & kenbu. As far as the iaito used for kenbu, they use the same type of iatio for both practices. They don't use a lighter version for either practice. It might be a different situation depending upon the particular style of iaido & kenbu you practice. These days it seems hard to find a place that teaches people kenbu forms. I'm not familiar with any places in the U.K. that teach kenbu. The only schools I know of are in Phoenix, Az (United States) and Las Vegas, NV (United States). Don't know if that helps any, but I wish you luck with your search.

Hello,

the Paul Chen iaitos are over 1kg!
the lightest I saw on the web was 780g, on different merchants
I ordered mine from japaneseswords.net asking for it to be really light (as I'm short anyway I had to order a blade length of 72cm)
the result is a 740g sword
I don't know if it can get any lighter...

Re: Finding KENBU & ultra-light kenbu swords

Thank you all for your replies. My stature dictates a sword of 2.45, but by "light" I mean 400g, because I know from experience that even a 400g niten ichi ryu bokken is too heavy after two hours of practice. My martial arts supplier here in the UK used to sell iaito made especially light for kenbu, so I'm hoping someone somewhere still makes them. Unfortunately the manufacturer who used to supply him no longer makes them. I had thought of finding someone who custom-builds, but no luck so far.
If anyone can supply me with contact details of kenbu schools, I might be able to find out that way.

My thanks again.
