Fixing a Bowed Jo
I recently bought a jo from a reputable, and at that time I did not notice a bow in it. I have stored it in a weapons bag with my bokken laying flat on a carpeted floor. I do not have a chance to use it often, but the other day I noticed it is now bowed. Is there anyway/techique for straightening out my jo?

Thank you.

Re: Fixing a Bowed Jo
Yeah I have two that are like that too!

Anyone really tried anything that worked.

Seems to me to be an issue with the wood being still a slight bit green when it was cut, both of mine are definately warped toward more open grain side.

Both of the ones that I have seem quality and are white oak..

Re: Fixing a Bowed Jo
If it's made of hickory, you should be able to apply steady pressure against the warp and work it back into straightness. If it's made of oak, it's probably a lost cause, unless you steam or soak the whole thing at once and let it dry while clamped in a hydraulic press. Of course, that might make it too brittle for safe use. (and it's probably likely to re-warp anyway) :straightf
