Best DVD for basic Aikido techniques?

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good DVD that covers all the basic Aikido techniques and if anyone has experience with supplementing their dojo instruction in this way. I am a new student practicing at a USAF dojo and I feel like it might be helpful to be able to watch these techniques done well at home, in addition to at the dojo.

Thanks in advance for any tips

Dave

Thanks for the links guys, I appreciate the help. I did find some books that I'm going to check out in addition to the video series "Aikido in Training" at coolrain.com - Does anyone own these videos and can you tell me anything about them?

Very clear teaching. The woman does some marvelous randori. Well worth your money, time, and attention. I bought the set after reviewing one. The book is good, too.

David,
I would highly suggest Yamada Sensei's "The Power and the Basics". I think it was done in the early 80's (Waite Sensei, uke, is sporting a jeri curl:-) so the quality is not like todays material but you can't go wrong with that one.
It covers the basic requirements as well as variations.

Thank you Asim, I'll look into it.
Also, I'm not sure how you knew that I sport jeri curls but I don't appreciate the implication that they're out of style. I suppose you'd have a problem with the leisure suit that I train in as well, right?

NY Aikikai sells the videos Asim mentioned. They have clips from the video that you can watch.

What about clips online that I can download?

I am in Iraq as well and mail is very slow in getting here. January is the cut off time for recieving mail here, though I wont be home for a couple of months after that. The internet connection is pretty slow but I can download while I sleep.

There are no partners that I can train with (very new, six months before shipping out to Iraq) and I can't seem to remember a lot of what I went over in class. So some sort of clips to watch would help. I do have "The Spirit of Aikido" by Kisshomaru Ueshiba and it is very good, but it is no substitute for doing it.

A good resource. Some of these are for subscribers only: http://www.aikidojournal.com/subscribe.php ($29.75/year). This also gives you access to the articles page which has the equivalent of several books available for reading. I recommend this site to my students and friends.

The Power and Basics Vol.1 is out on DVD now and Vol.2 should be out. You might want to check http://www.aikidoonline.com It should be updated soon.

Wow, the aikido celebration clip has some really good shiko. That guy can move better on his knees that I can on my feet.

Hi. I wanted to know if there is any updated dvd's for beginners and books that show very clear pictures on the techniques. I would really like to learn this form of martial arts.
Thanks

Hi,

May I suggest that you purchase all three volumes of "Aikido The Power and The Basics"...Asim Hanif is absolutely correct, you can't go wrong. I refer to them frequently. They are quite helpful.

But, please be mindful, nothing substitutes practice, :) If I may offer that...:D

Good Luck To you and enjoy...

Wow, almost 8 years for a zombie uprising. What's the record?

The best dvd is the one that you pick up from your sensei to review before your belt test after finding a dojo and training there for a while.
