Toes!

I've just come back from quiet a physical session of Aikido and the worst part are my TOES!

Doing Suwari waza and knee walking really hurts, so my question is, do toes get more supple?

rachmass 06-17-2003 03:55 PM

not mine! they've gotten worse over the years, and hurt more and more with suwari waza (didn't used to affect my toes, just in the last few years).

Hope you fare better!

I ve had ukes fall on my heel while in a live toes position. Not entirely pleasant at all. After 8 yrs, no toe pain yet, but the toes do crack often and very loudly

This will not feel good at first. But persist, and it will help. (and get more comfortable)

Sit comfortably on a chair or on the floor. Cross one leg over your thigh. Fit your fingers between your toes as deeply as possible, and if you can tolerate it, move, bend, flex. Or if not, just hold for a minute. Then, of course, do the other foot. Do this once or twice a day ...

If you wear shoes a lot, try to go barefoot more.

My feet have gotten stronger and more flexible over years of practice, so don't assume this will continue to be a problem.

Yours for flexible toes!

The other day I stopped into a friends Uechi-ryu karate class. A few of us were standing around talking and we started comparing callouses...don't ask  They started chuckling at me when they found out I had callouses on the tops of my toes :p Of course I laughed at them because some of them couldn't straighten their big toes anymore :freaky:

Check out Ikeda Sensei's tape Za if you want to see some flexible toes (ouch).
