Iwama Style Bokken
Anyone have an idea of a Japanese based manufacture for an extra long bokken?

Re: Iwama Style Bokken
How long is "extra long" ?

Re: Iwama Style Bokken
107cm...the longest we have been able to find is 103cm, after that all retailers say it would a custom job. There is a manufacturer that makes the extra long iwama style bokken, but have had no luck tracking them down or with anyone releasing the contact info. Apparently it's a BIG secret

You can also try to contact Aikiweb member Petar A, he makes weapons to order. Is this ken for someone who is very tall?

Re: Iwama Style Bokken
I would like to mention that bokken adhere to a general standard length. If the bokken exceeds this length it becomes another weapon, much the same as when a Jo becomes longer than the usual length. I know several high-level, vertically enhanced aikido practitioners and they all use standard size bokken.
Just a thought. In aiki, Ethan Weisgard |
Re: Iwama Style Bokken
Bokken adhere to a general standard length because there is generally a greater degree of homogeneity in the Japanese body type than in other groups'. Sword length is very important, although the importance usually shows up in the other direction. A sword that is too long is very difficult if not impossible to safely draw from its scabbard. Someone who is proportioned radically differently than the average Japanese man may need a longer sword
Ever try to find a gi that fits an American woman well? Same same. And what a pain in the arse. |
