Just thought I'd introduce myself here on the forums, though I am uncertain how frequently I will actually be able to post. I started taking aikido classes about two months ago, after an injury forced me away from karate, which I have trained in for about 6 years or so.
I had taken intermittent aikido classes many years ago, when I was still in the service, but I was never able to train consistently back then or develop any real ability in the art. So far this has not been the case this time around. Life is a little more stable than it was back then so I think I should be able to maintain a regular training routine.
The group I train with practices the Iwama style, which definitely has a different feel from whatever it was I trained in years ago. I'm quite amazed with (and pleasantly surprised by) the increased emphasis on bokken and jo training.
My main goal in my aikido training is simply to enjoy the experience, and gain whatever else I can along the way (though a dan rank or two by time my daughter starts dating wouldn't be a bad addition either, just to add a little fear factor :D ).
