I have noticed ads for videos by Sensei Crane (Cool Rain is the company that sells them). Has anyone seen those videos or have them and what is their opinion on them? Also, what style of Aikido do they practice. Thanks in advance.

Ok. So I guess no one has seen those videos or has no opinion on them. I guess I will broaden the question. Can anyone recommend any good Aikido videos (regardless of style) that might broaden my horizon? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

As for me, Saito, Saotome, Shioda, Ikeda sensei's videos are very useful and interesting.
P.S. I feel that I've missed somebody but it's too hot today and my memory doesn't work. :( |
I have seen the Cool Rain videos and I believe the Cranes' are consider themselves aikikai. My contention is the videos are okay, but, trying to learn from a video is not effective.
Get into a good school with a good instructor. |
Of course- learning from a video is no replacement for a sensei- but it can be a nice supplement while practicing by yourself...

I train at an Iwama dojo. Sensei and I are going to purchase the Crane videos, except for the Tanren Uchi video when we recover from putting the new mat down. YMMV, |
crane's videos
I have seen the whole collection, minus the Tanren, they(the cranes) are independent of the Aikikai, and train in Traditional iwama style Aikido. Their videos are good at showcasing A LOT of weapons and applications of those weapons. That Weapon system is taken from Saito, as are almost all weapon systems(AAA,ASU) they are good for a starting point, but as what everyone else says, not a replacement for a personal instructor.
