Who Trains in Arizona?
Hey guys anyone Train in Arizona?
if so where? I'm trying to compare schools ....Matt |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Where in Arizona are you looking? I did train in Tucson at Aikido of Tucson, which I highly recommend. There are other quality schools in Tucson as well, depends on what you are looking for.
If Tucson is where you're thinking, let me know and I will wax more poetic. Cheers, Paul |

Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Hey Matt,
You may want to try this site: http://www.jiyushinkai.org/jiyushinkan/ It's Chuck Clark Sensei's school. I've trained with one of his affiliate schools a few years back in Louisiana and had a chance to meet him. Great teacher, and I have heard good things about the school. He's in the area you mentioned. |

Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Matt,
I am a Jiyushinkai student, and I would definetly second the nomination to go and atleast check out the Jiyushinkan. Clark Sensei is an extremely good teacher, and it is a great system. Watching 4 hours of class does take some patience, but it can really be worth it to feel out if the dojo is right for you. Just my two cents. |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Matt,
Gotta agree with everything said about Clark sensei and the Jiyushinkai. Well worth any amount of time. It's quality training with great people. And if you're serious about aikido, what's 4 hours of time compared to the lifetime of hours you'll end up putting into it? Mark |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Might want to check out Aikido Kokikai Southwest. Some very good long training folks there.

Anyone who is experienced and would like to train with us for a short time is welcome to do so by making contact in advance and introducing themselves. People that come in unannounced that we do not already know can not get on the mat the first time they come into the dojo. We are not a commercial dojo that sells memberships and is "open to everyone that's willing to pay." |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
The Arizona Ki Society is a large dojo with Kirk Fowler Sensei as Chief Instructor. They're located in Scottsdale, AZ. Give them a call and drop by for a look-see.
However check out everyone that you can so you can make an informed decision on your training. |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?

Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
Hi Chuck, I did watch 3 hours of class, and really liked it! Great instruction. But for me it is not seeing instruction, But feeling it.

Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
The simple truth is, Mr. Sloan, that no one but members of the dojo or members of Jiyushinkai get "instruction" in my dojo. Visitors that are invited onto the mat to train with us are guests.
The fact that you didn't feel like coming back is part of our process for deciding who gets onto our mat for instruction. Everyone needs to be where they feel like they want to be. Why would anyone enter into a relationship of giving and receiving instruction with someone that has decided they don't want to be there? Best of luck in finding the place where you want to train. |
Re: Who Trains in Arizona?
thanks for your input everyone I think I found what I was looking for.
