AikiWeb is honored to present the AikiWeb Workshop 2007 with Ellis Amdur sensei, Chuck Clark sensei, and Dennis Hooker sensei to take place in Orlando, Florida on February 2-4, 2007 at the Shindai Aikikai dojo. These three remarkable instructors from different lineages will share how aikido has affected their lives and the people around them. Just as a quick reminder, the AikiWeb Workshop will take place on February 2-4, 2007, in Orlando, Florida. The instructors for this event will be Ellis Amdur sensei, Chuck Clark sensei, and Dennis Hooker sensei.

Don't forget that registrations postmarked on or before January 19th receive a discount, so please be sure to send in your registrations before then!

Any chance something like this will ever happen in a place with affordable flights from Europe...? Possibly NYC or DC? That would be so nice... I couldnt find any this time. Well, you guys have fun and I dream on ...

Just a suggestion, Nicholas... Flights run both ways. Think about bringing the instructors to you. Their costs can be split many ways between attendees. The more fellow aikidoka you can sign up, the lower the cost to each of you. FWIW.

Check airfare from say Frankfurt (or Brussels etc) to Miami and rent a car. I have not checked but airfare to Miami but because it is a hub for the Caribbean may be reasonable. Just a thought.

Hello Dr. Seiser,

My understanding is that an Application Topic session may, if the instructor is so inclined, cover recognition/employment of aikido principles in daily life and/or complimentary pursuits. A breathing exercise, a solo kata of some sort, a verbal tactic for conflict de-escalation, a helpful hint for keeping one's keiko-gi crispy white and spring fresh -- an open invitation for the instructor to cover something people might not expect. And a warning to those attending that they may get something they wouldn't otherwise expect.

Having said that, my recollection from the first AikiWeb Workshop is that the Application Topic sessions were not so strange.

I guess we'll see when we see.

Just returned from a most excellent weekend workshop.

My deepest compliments and appreciation to our host (Jun of Aiki Web), our instructors (Clark, Hooker, and Amdur), and all the participants. It was a great weekend of instruction, insight, and inspiration.

The information was overwhelming, but I will to stop riding my dead horse and think about those things i didn't know were things I needed to think about. (If you smiled, you were there. if you didn't smile, don't miss it next time.)

Great fun and I learned a huge amount this past weekend. Thanks to all that took part. Now all I have to do is process what I learned down into my "cellular consciousness" (or celery consciousness as Arlo Guthrie used to call it) and add it to what I had already thought about that I didn't know I needed to think about... :straightf

I thoroughly enjoyed everyone and the struggle to take in so much and so many varied examples of what we all obviously love.

Let's do it again!

Man oh man it is great to learn from each other with so many good and skilled folks willing to help. You all do know that Chuck, Ellis and I were there to learn from one another don't ya? :D We act civilized like we are teacher but in fact we are thieves using the guise of class to steal from one another. ;)

Had a great time!

I met more people than I can remember, though I can still see faces swirling around in my mind. :)

Thanks to all who helped make this happen.

I think the one thing that stood out for me was watching Hooker sensei teach a session. For me, it was as if Clark sensei was teaching. Different people, different backgrounds, different teaching methodology, but to me they seemed to be doing the same thing.

Of course, the other thing that stood out was me trying to throw Amdur sensei in tenchi nage. Emphasis on trying. :)

I also had a great time. It is always interesting to train with so many people from different Aikido backgrounds.

The highlight for me was watching Jun take ukemi. Perhaps the next Aiki Web workshop can have an Ukemi focus where Jun and others can lead the classes.

Yeah, but it's really hard to steal anything when people are willing to give what we want. :)

I'm already looking forward to next time. I agree that we ought to present different approaches to ukemi. Shisei, shintai, and ukemi are part of the foundation we need to build our structure.
