deceptivley easy...

Latley during training things have been seeming too easy sometimes. Today I realized that this is usually when your doing it right! Aikido truly is a completly different way of learning. The power in relaxation is key (no pun intended) It's all about self refinement, which in turn directly affects your ability to learn and relax in (and out of) the dojo.

Just some personal ramblings, comments welcome!

Agreed.

It was hard for me to get my head around that if it felt too easy it was probably right and if I felt like I did something it was probably wrong.

Life is filled with paradox and contradictions.

Agreed,

my first teacher used to say "no paradox, no truth" I guess he could be both right and wrong with that statement :)

I think the first realisation that "it can't be that easy" is both confusing and shocking, and it has to happen many times before it changes to "it can be that easy!"

Mark

Agreed, Whenever I end up executing the technique smoothly and it felt too easy, I cant help but smiling. :)

During my 4th kyu testing, I had my first moment of aikido being truly easy. I dispatched three uke, and it felt as if I'd hardly touched them! I just stood there, slack-jawed, and they got up and started to knock me around. :D

Now, when I have an easy time of it, it serves to frustrate my students who haven't gotten there just yet.

It feels really cool when you finally just let go, but it's even cooler when you see someone else do it! I love seeing those lightbulbs appear over their heads! :D

That is true but sometimes aikido can be too easy when one is not being challenged above their personal skill level. I was stuck in that rut for some time.

Sometimes I get annoyed thinking uke isn't taking me seriously when it seems too easy....so I request that they give me a harder time or ask if they are going easy on me.

Usually nothing changes but I feel better.

It doesn't happen to me very often but when it does it sure is a good feeling. For me personally I started breathing while being present vs.holding my breathe (bad habit0.

Are you saying easy as in Dojo level training where the UKE has been conditioned to attack and respond in the 'aikido' way?

I've been mucking about with other styles. Aikido seldom is easy with those ppl :P

Yep - I think is good to train with as many different people as we can, so eventually it will be easy with everyone ;)
